    Olivia Colman is an English actress. She has won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, three BAFTA Awards, and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards. Her film career began in 2006 with supporting roles in the films Peep Show and Hot Fuzz. She went on to play lead roles in Broadchurch and The Night Manager. For her role as Queen Anne in the historical drama film The Favourite, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

    Colman was born on 30 May 1974 in Norwich, Norfolk, to a nurse mother and chartered surveyor father. She was educated at Gresham’s School in Holt and spent a year studying at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She then joined the Bristol Old Vic Young Company. Colman made her stage debut in 1991, appearing in Tim Burton’s production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the Bristol Old Vic. She appeared as a contestant on a celebrity special of The Weakest Link in 2007, but was eliminated in the second round.

    Colman’s first film role came in 2004, when she played Sophie Chapman in the crime comedy Pride & Prejudice. Her breakthrough role came two years later when she played DS Ellie Miller in the first series of the ITV crime drama Broadchurch. For her work on the show, she won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She reprised her role in the show’s second and third series. In 2015, Colman played Angela Burr in the AMC/BBC limited series The Night Manager. For her work on the show, she won a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie/Miniseries and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film.

    Colman’s first lead film role came in 2018 with the historical drama The Favourite. She played Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough, the close confidante of Queen Anne. For her performance, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She will next star as Queen Elizabeth II in the third season of The Crown.

    Colman has been married to actor Ed Sinclair since 2011. They have three children together.
